Generation's Heirs

In intriguing sequence, many years approaches

When we see light increasingly spreading, darkness relentlessly encroaches

Fathers though being pleased with the advancements of the ages

also incessantly fear for the future of their children.

As though we are entering a new dark age

The thickness of its cloak makes us wonder if the one before

was rather a light age?

Evil is constantly on the rise with overwhelming sophistication of artilleries

that almost shatters the heart into pieces of despair at a first encounter.

What surprised our fathers and mothers was not its size but the age of those

that wielded them.

And they wondered why they held such mantles of wickedness

Yet thought they were honoring the heritage of the fathers.

“We’re only doing what we saw our fathers and mothers do.

Like our national pledge, we held them in high esteem and

mimicked every move showed us to give us our identities

and this is what was introduced to us as the meaning of our existence

My father killed my mother before my eyes and told me it was my auntie.

I was lectured in school to forget what integrity meant and bribe my way through

In bewilderment I wondered why it was still on the school’s logo.

My father and mother sentenced me to life imprisonment into

marriage with a rich man for his wealth

and now he beats and cheats on me with Solomon’s concubines.

Men I respected told me do whatever I can to make money,

even when they had the chance to teach me generosity.

so I sacrificed their children and sold their lands.

Until money became my God and I its humble slave.

What wrong have we done when we’re merely carrying it on.

Who can undo this degree of damage?

If not God

What can quench the momentum of this rage?

If not the Love of He that made us

We have been set in cycles of evil legacies

who shall rescue us?

If not the great arm of He who saves.
